TLT-Turbo and Mosen paper on the new MoJet® Fan presented at the 2022 Tunnel Safety and Ventilation Conference

Mosen’s Fathi Tarada, presented a paper at the annual Tunnel Safety and Ventilation Conference in Graz, Austria. The paper, which Tarada co-authored with Mosen’s Pier Bertacche and Product Manager of the Tunnel & Metro Business Segment at TLT-Turbo, Lars Lehmann, was titled: “Measurements and CFD Calculations with a MoJet and Conventional Fan”.

The three-day conference event was well attended with industry experts able to meet face to face after the conference’s four year hiatus.

TLT-Turbo and Mosen also exhibited at the event, with a MoJet® fan model on display, providing an opportunity to engage with interested colleagues in the industry as well as prospective customers. The display model provided visitors with a chance to see the technical details of the MoJet®, to find out how the special nozzle geometry redirects the air jet away from the tunnel ceiling. Visitors were also able to appreciate the MoJet’s® scale. Being the same height as a conventional Jet Fan, it provides a distinct advantage over the ‘slanted’ silencer design.

Along with Tarada and Lehmann, TLT-Turbo tunnel ventilation experts, Till Weishaar and Sander Wirth were in attendance to provide insight into the ways in which the MoJet® is redefining tunnel ventilation.

TLT-Turbo Employees Step up in Aid of Ukraine

In recognition of the serious on-going humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, TLT-Turbo has raised funds through an internal employee donation campaign. The funds raised amounted to 11,110 Euro officially handed over to Germany-based non-profit organizations who are actively working to help Ukrainians affected bythe conflict.

TLT-Turbo’s campaign kicked off in March when employees were invited to donate an amount of their choosing directly from their paychecks in the form of a tax-free wage share. The campaign was opened to all Germany based TLT-Turbo employees who were further motivated and inspired by the fact that the company matched and doubled every employee donation.

“Ukraine is experiencing a serious humanitarian crisis and the need for medical care and relief supplies for people on the ground and those fleeing the conflict increases daily. We became concerned after seeing footage of thousands of people leaving Ukraine – and those still within the country’s borders – who need urgent help. This is why we initiated the fundraising campaign. We knew we could count on our people to come through for Ukraine, and to recognize this the business committed to doubling their contribution,” said TLT-Turbo Managing Director, Mr. Matthias Adamy.

The urgency of the help needed was highlighted in March when TLT-Turbo had to come to the aid
of one of their Ukraine-based customers who had just arrived in Germany with her family after fleeing
Ukraine. TLT-Turbo sent 500 Euro in emergency aid for clothing and necessities within days of her arrival in Germany.

In May 2022, TLT-Turbo was able to raise a total of 11,110 Euro. This total amount was split equally between two regional organizations administering care at the Ukrainian border and beyond; the Child Protection Association in Zweibrücken and the Christian Relief Service in Bad Hersfeld.

The handover took place on the 13th and 20th of June respectively by local council chairpersons Markus Schieler for Zweibrücken and Beate Hickel for Bad Hersfeld at TLT-Turbo branches in the two locations

The Child Protection Association expressed their gratitude saying that the requests they receive are mostly from women who have between 8 – 10 children under their care. They use the funds donated by TLT-Turbo to buy supplies for school and for their summer programme. The Christian Relief Service used the funds to install pumps for
water treatment and to purchase hygiene items and supplies including diapers and food.

“Whether this was a show of strength or an expression of sadness for the circumstances in Ukraine, we are proud that so many employees took the opportunity to donate a portion of their hard-earned income. We sincerely thank every employee who chose to stand in solidarity with the people affected and made our donation possible”, said Mr. Adamy.

Anuga FoodTec 2022

Anuga FoodTec 2022 showed that there is a great need for energy savings on the part of the industry – especially in the area of evaporation technology. A great potential lies in the saving of steam generation costs.

With focus on energy and cost efficiencies in the food and beverage industry that were the center of attention at Anuga FoodTec (AFT) 2022, the use of mechanical vapor recompression (MVR) was identified as a central key to reducing energy requirements for steam supply in plants.

Global ventilation fans and systems manufacturer, TLT-Turbo GmbH, concluded its participation at the 2022 Anuga FoodTec tradeshow, which took place from April 26-29 at Cologne, Germany. As the world’s most prominent food and beverage industry tradeshow, the event showcased a mix of physical and digital offerings to the industry covering a wide variety of new concepts and solutions for meeting the challenges facing food and beverage producers worldwide.

With increasing requirements and legislation regarding energy savings and avoidance of CO2 emissions set to affect these industries in the next few years, the introduction of energy-efficient technologies and equipment is critical to sustained success. Mario Schmidt, TLT-Turbo Head of the Vapor Fans Business Segment, says that TLT-Turbo participated at AFT for exactly this reason. “We offer high efficiency fans, which are used primarily in the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries, among many other applications. These fans can help our customers to modernize and upgrade existing plants or to provide vapor processing for new production lines. Furthermore, they help to achieve CO2 footprint reduction and minimize the use of fossil fuels in vapor production,” Schmidt explains.

TLT-Turbo products, renowned for their energy efficiency capabilities, are a perfect fit for food producers who want to increase their energy efficiency, increase their availability and minimize their maintenance costs. “We have now expanded our product portfolio to the point where we can serve the widest possible range of mass flows at considerable pressure increases, in order to offer customers the greatest possible flexibility in their plant design” explains Schmidt.

“AFT 2022 provided an opportunity for us to connect with customers for the first time in a while. We had quite a number of visitors to our booth who were interested in what our MVR range has to offer and I am glad to say that many leads and potential projects arose from these conversations”, says Schmidt. “Visitors included both potential new customers and existing customers who we had invited to our booth. The trade show gave us the opportunity to have constructive discussions with our customers and discover new potential. We look forward to building on this at further trade shows. It was a great reminder of how manufacturers and customers can inspire and learn from each other.”

Schmidt emphasizes that TLT-Turbo’s presence at the event, and particularly the focus that they placed on the MVR range this year, was very important. This enabled the TLT-Turbo team to interact more closely with customers and discuss new innovative solutions for the future.

“I am pleased that our customers were quick to recognize that our product addresses the needs for minimizing maintenance costs and ease of implementation of the product in the customer’s plant, in addition to the tremendous energy savings. A key to this is the proven ceramic hybrid bearing, which is used in all TLT-Turbo MVR fans.”

TLT-Turbo Announces Contract with Polish Mining Group

TLT-Turbo has formalized a large contract for services, spare parts supply and a 3-year overhaul of four fans as part of a framework agreement with a Polish mining group. The contract further cements the existing agreement that has been in place with this customer since 2018.

The customer is a mining operation based in Poland and operates in the copper and silver sector with 30,000+ employees globally. The scope of work for the delivery of services includes complete overhaul of the rotors, replacement of the main bearings of the built-in motors, renewal of the sealing systems of the built-in motors, maintenance of the main weather ventilation shutter, and maintenance of the regulation and control unit. These services will be jointly supplied with TLT-Turbo’s Polish service provider, HeymVent.

At their Poland-based copper mine, the customer is operating four GAF 38/25-1 type fans with adjustable blades for reverse operation and built-in motors. These fans are used for ventilation of the mine system and are essential for the survival of miners working there. TLT-Turbo will be completing the overhaul by November 2022.

This agreement is advantageous for the customer as the fans are designed for further operation and regular maintenance which ensures optimum availability of the ventilation system. This makes a major contribution to occupational safety for the miners.

It is worth noting that this is the first time that TLT-Turbo agreed to hydraulic revisions at a fixed price. This means that there will be no additional unplanned costs for this customer in future. Another benefit for the customer is that the turnaround times for hydraulic overhauls will be significantly reduced. The overhauled hydraulics will therefore be available earlier for reassembly.
